Bedroom Lighting

Monte Carlo 60 in. Arch Ceiling Fan - Brushed Steel

The bedroom is a place for quiet solitude, and the overall lighting scheme in the bedroom should reflect that. Some specifically placed task lighting completes the scheme, to be used for reading or other activities.

General lighting in the bedroom is best provided by ceiling fixtures, chandeliers, fan lights, recessed downlights, or wall sconces. These types of lights will give you the illumination you need to get ready in the morning, see into drawers and closets, and do other household tasks in the bedroom.

If you have a walk-in closet in your bedroom, you might want to install a ceiling or wall fixture in there to get a better look at your wardrobe. Installing a recessed light is another option for the closet. If you have a dressing table, jewelry case, or mirror in your bedroom, an adjustable lamp or lighted mirror is a good idea for assisting in morning ritual or evening preparation.

Lighting around the bed is key, and there are a few options. Swing-arm wall lamps will provide ample light, but leave bedside tabletops open for clock radios and books. Pendant lights next to the bed or recessed lighting in the ceiling are other options. If you do want to go with a lamp, you have many options, especially in terms of style.

If you are preparing a lighting scheme for a child's bedroom, consider track lights. They can be rotated in many directions and accommodate a number of different bedroom activities and decorations: as a child grows, of course the decoration of the room will change, but track lights are basic enough to fit almost any decorating scheme.
