The bedroom is a place for quiet solitude, and the overall lighting scheme in the bedroom should reflect that. Some specifically placed fixtures can complement the scheme, to be used for reading or other activities. Illuminating the bedroom is best done by ceiling fixtures, chandeliers, ceiling fans, recessed downlights, or wall sconces. These types of fixtures will give you the illumination you need to get ready in the morning, see into drawers and closets, and do other household tasks in the bedroom without running into walls or stubbing your toes on the furniture. |
If you have a walk-in closet in your bedroom, you might want to install a ceiling or wall fixture in there to get a better look at your wardrobe. Recessed are a very popular option for the closet. If you have a dressing table, jewelry case, or mirror in your bedroom, an adjustable arm or vanity mirror is a good idea for assisting in morning ritual or evening preparation.
Being able to see in the dark around the bed is key, and there are a few options. Swing-arm wall lamps will do the trick, and also leave bedside tabletops open for clock radios and books. Pendants next to the bed or recessed in the ceiling are other options. If you do want to go with a lamp, you have many options, especially in terms of style.
If you are preparing a scheme for a child's bedroom, consider track lights. They can be rotated in many directions and accommodate a number of different bedroom activities and decorations: as a child grows, of course the decoration of the room will change, but these are basic enough to fit or adjust to almost any decorating scheme.
